Recently, I received an exciting message from Sabrina, who wanted to celebrate her pregnancy by capturing the moment she discovered her baby’s gender. She envisioned a unique photoshoot that would take place in just a few days, involving a bit of travel. When Sabrina shared her idea of doing the gender reveal on a charming little boat at The Tides Inn, I couldn’t resist! I managed to adjust my schedule to fit her in, even though I had several photoshoots lined up for that day. The opportunity to be part of such a special moment was absolutely worth it.

Sabrina and Sean are such a sweet and funny couple. Photographing them was a joy, filled with laughter and jokes. Knowing how much they had wanted this moment made capturing this huge milestone even more heartwarming. Sean and Sabrina reserved the cutest little boat at The Tides Inn, a coastal hotel in Irvington, Virginia. Driving through the town made me crave a coastal getaway ASAP. Sean skillfully parked the boat in the only shady spot available, creating the perfect setting for the gender reveal.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sabrina had a clear vision: she wanted to cut into a cake with champagne glasses to reveal the gender through the color of the frosting. With their eyes closed, Sabrina and Sean dug into the cake, and I captured their genuine reactions as they opened their eyes. It was a moment of pure joy and teary-eyed happiness, so sweet that I didn’t give any direction, just let them enjoy the moment.

 

 

 

 

Sabrina’s reaction, screaming with joy that they are having a girl, was priceless. The cake was delicious, and they insisted I try a few bites since there was so much. After the gender reveal, we stepped off the boat to take more photos on the hotel’s private beach. By then, it was golden hour, perfect for capturing stunning beachy photos. Irvington, Virginia, is a gorgeous coastal area, and I even found a grassy spot that photographed beautifully.

 

For anyone considering a similar session, keep in mind the limited space on a small boat. I had to get creative with poses since I was basically right in front of Sabrina and Sean. Full-body photos and more dynamic poses were easier to achieve once we moved to the beach.
